Thiem wants to finally win another ATP tournament in his home country

After a being injured for a long period of time, Dominic Thiem has been back on the tennis courts for several months now. The Austrian is starting to get back to his old self after a tough start and will be looking to win an ATP title in his home country this week. In any case, Thiem is the favourite for the overall victory in Kitzbühel.

In 2020, the now 28-year-old Thiem managed to win the US Open. With a third place on the world ranking list and a good number of tournament victories under his belt, people were convinced that the Austrian was going to become a regular in the top five of the world. However, a serious wrist injury threw a spanner in the works. Thiem was sidelined for nine months before returning to the court in March of this year at the challenger tournament in Marbella. However, it took until July before Thiem was able to earn a victory. Slowly but surely his form is returning, which resulted in a spot in the semi-finals at the tournament in Gstaad last week, where Thiem ultimately had to acknowledge defeat to Matteo Berrettini.

Of the seventeen titles in Thiem's career, ten were won on clay. On that surface he will try to win the ATP tournament in Kitzbühel this week. A feat that seems quite possible, because the list of participants is not all that spectacular with Roberto Bautista-Agut and Albert Ramos as the seemingly most difficult opponents. Thiem's first hurdle on Tuesday is the Russian Alexander Shevchenko (ATP-157). According to the betting shops, that should not be a problem given the odds of 1.16 for Thiem versus 5.00 for Schevchenko. If you think Thiem is destined to win the tournament then a nice odds of 5.50 awaits you. Fifth on the list of contenders is Tallon Griekspoor with an odd of 10.00. The Dutchman received a bye in the first round after being allowed to take the spot of second-seeded Matteo Berrettini.
