Ten Hag set to debut against Liverpool on Tuesday, without much-discussed Ronaldo

Erik ten Hag is set to make his debut as Manchester United manager, on Tuesday. In Thailand, a friendly against Liverpool is scheduled, with the new signing Tyrell Malacia and the returned Donny van de Beek among the United ranks. The most discussed name will not be on the pitch, however. Cristiano Ronaldo is allegedly looking to leave Manchester, and has not travelled to Thailand because of 'family issues'.

When Erik ten Hag was appointed as the new manager of Manchester United, one thing was clear: the squad was in dire need of refurbishment. In terms of incoming transfers, things are still relatively quiet in the red half of Manchester. Left back Tyrell Malacia is the only new signing so far, but United still expect to make some big moves. Names like Frenkie de Jong, Lisandro Martínez, Christian Eriksen and Antony have circulated around Old Trafford over the past few weeks. The reinforcements are much needed, because with the current squad United will likely struggle to finish in the top-4 in the Premier League, a position that would ensure Champions League football.

The Red Devils left for Thailand on Friday, with a squad of 31 players. Among them are a number of familiar names such as goalkeeper David de Gea, defenders Harry Maguire and Raphael Varane, midfielders Bruno Fernandes, Fred and Scott McTominay and strikers Anthony Martial and Marcus Rashford. But a lot of these very players have been heavily criticized by the media and their own supporters in recent years for their poor performances. The hope is, that if these players stay, Ten Hag will be able to strike the right chord and bring out the best in the players.

Ronaldo the big absentee in Thailand

If we look at the players who have left Old Trafford behind so far, we see some big names among them. Nemanja Matic, Paul Pogba, Edison Cavani, Jesse Lingard and Juan Mata have all set off on new adventures. There is an ever increasing chance that Ronaldo's name can also be added to that list. The Portuguese star player is looking to leave United, indicating that the biggest reason is the lack of Champions League football. Losing Ronaldo would be a big blow for Ten Hag, given that he is already quite low on attackers.

On Tuesday afternoon at 15.00h, CET, United will meet Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool. The match will be played at the beautiful Rajamangala Stadium in Bangkok. The betting agencies do not favour a debut win for Ten Hag. Indeed, a Manchester United victory will earn you 3.70 times your stake while a win for Liverpool only receives an odd of 1.82. Friendlies often see a lot of goals scored in them. If at least three goals are scored in this match, you will get back 1.50 times your stake, if you feel confident enough to bet on a minimum of four goals, you might end up cashing out more than double your stake.
