Roland Garros day 5: Medvedev and Tsitsipas in action in second round

Wednesday promised to be a day of great duels at Roland Garros and so it did. Favorites for the final victory, Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz, qualify with great difficulty for the third round. Also on Thursday, there will be some great matches which can all be followed live on this site from 11.00 a.m..

Daniil Medvedev is seeded second in Paris, but there is little chance that the Russian will live up to that status. Medvedev hates gravel and will not celebrate any great successes on it. Yet the number two of the world should be able to make it to the third round, because his opponent on Thursday is the relatively unknown Serbian Laslo Djere, the number 56 of the world. Medvedev can count himself lucky with the draw, because the toughest opponents are almost all in the upper part of the schedule while the Russian is assigned to the lower half.

Outsider for the final victory at Roland Garros is the number four on the ranking list, Stefanos Tsitsipas. The Greek had a lousy opening match against Italian Lorenzo Musetti. After more than 3.5 hours Tsitsipas decided the five-setter in his favor. A poor start, but the number four of the world is still a great candidate for the final victory and his form will improve as the tournament progresses. His match in the second round should not be a problem. His opponent is the Czech Zdenek Kolar, ranked 134 on the world ranking list.
