One of the most entertaining games this weekend will be played in the Bundesliga on Saturday night. Borussia Dortmund will take on Bayern Munich at home. After eight games in the Bundesliga, both teams are tied in points and chasing the lead. In recent years, this encounter yielded many goals with Bayern almost always winning. This year, however, Der Rekordmeister are not doing as well and a hot night is expected.
With as many as nine loss points, from only eight games yet, we do not find Bayern Munich on top of the Bundesliga with one quarter of the league done. And that takes some getting used to, because for years the Munich team has dominated its own league and the question was not if but rather how early in the season they would win the league. Leaders Union Berlin are two points clear of Bayern and only lead number two SC Freiburg on goal difference.
Borussia Dortmund are also in the upper echelons and, like Bayern, have 15 points after eight games played. What coach Edin Terzic's team lacks is scoring ability. Sebastién Haller was acquired from Ajax to succeed goal scoring machine Erling Haaland. Haller's personal tragedy, testicular cancer, caused problems in the striker position. Antony Modeste was hastily acquired from FC Köln, but the 34-year-old striker has the utmost difficulty finding the net, scoring only once in seven appearances.
Always spectacle in duels between Dortmund and Bayern
Looking at the last five encounters between Borussia Dortmund and Bayern Munich, it can't be anything but a goal-rich evening at the Signal Iduna Park. All duels ended with at least four goals, but all were won by Bayern with an impressive goal difference of 16 for and 8 against. Remarkably, in the five previous encounters, both teams managed to score each time.
